Tumblr Staff:

We’re getting ready to push our biggest interface overhaul since last November, and we’d love to get your feedback.
Nearly every piece of the interface has changed. We’ve tried to perfect the presentation of the Dashboard, and the retooled interface will enable a lot of the new functionality we’re prepping to launch.

You can see the new beta site here. My first impressions of the new Dashboard are that items are now too big — even on a 1920 × 1200 display I can barely fit two photo posts at once. I like the new positioning of navigation elements, but I’m not so keen on the new colour scheme. Whereas the old, darker blue background was close to black, framing posts on a stark white centre column, the new background detracts from the content by washing the page with multiple shades of blue that blend to one down the page, stealing focus from the content. Small, graphical touches like the old design’s perforated header and the slight gloss on the logo have been removed to conform to a new, more clinical aesthetic which is gaining popularity once again.

I am excited about new functional additions which can’t be far away, including the complete overhaul of Tumblr’s theming engine announced in July.
