Jimmy Turrell’s book cover illustration for Beat IV: The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, a fully illustrated edition of the Samuel Taylor Coleridge poem published by the Heart Agency to showcase the work of their illustrators. The book, designed by Pentagram, won a D&AD Award for illustration and book design.
The Banner Concerts campaign by Belgium’s Boondoggle agency picked up five of the 16 golds awarded at this year’s Cannes Cyber Lions for online advertising. The campaign streamed gigs by local bands to a selection of popular Belgian websites, with band members crammed into custom-made boxes the same aspect ratio as common banner ad sizes. Brilliantly executed and downright inspiring.
Wellington writer/directors Mark Albiston and Louis Sutherland have been awarded a special distinction in the short film category at the Cannes Film Festival for The Six Dollar Fifty Man. The pair received the same award two years ago for Run. OnFilm has more.
Part of New Zealand design studio Alt Group’s campaign for intellectual property law firm Hudson Gavin Martin, based around the idea that good things come in threes. The campaign contributed three out of four Alt pieces selected as winners in New York’s prestigious 365: AIGA Annual Design Competition, all of which become part of the AIGA Design Archives. The Society of Publication Designers, SPD, announced the finalists for its yearly magazine design awards. Among them is this piece by GQ design director Fred Woodward and designer Thomas Alberty, nominated in the Section, Series of Pages category. (via Cliff Kuang)

The film is so good overall that it makes me wonder whether the Academy will have the balls to nominate it for Best Picture, rather than relegating it to the ridiculous and artificial “Animated” ghetto. The odds that there will be five better films released this year are slim.
