More evidence that hand-lettering is in: not only is Jeff Bridges on the cover of Esquire UK, so is his typography. The frenetic brushwork is familiar to anyone who has visited Bridges’ website, which has almost no text or type at all. It’s all lettered, written, scribbled by hand.

I think the logo looks great. If they didn’t already have one of the best brands in the mag business, I’d keep it.

Jason Schwartzman demos the hell out of the New Yorker iPad app,...

Jason Schwartzman demos the hell out of the New Yorker iPad app, in a promo directed by Roman Coppola. Mark Cousins in The Guardian:

He read the screenplay of Blue Velvet and famously told David Lynch that he was Frank Booth. The rapist-fetishist Booth took the mania of Hopper’s 1970s characters up a gear but, set in Lynch’s Eisenhower-textured world, he looked like one of the most terrifying characters in the history of the movies.

I digress slightly, but let me say that if you [want] to pay tribute to Edward today, then simply watch the original version of The Wicker Man. It is a film that he was very proud of and I think that it ranks as one of the best British films of all time. It certainly has an indisputably harrowing ending.

Never. It may be a brief interruption—just a few seconds—but what if someone sitting near you is trying to make a decent bootleg? Did you ever think of that? Now all those street-corner copies are permanently defiled by your so-called “emergency.” Don’t be so damn selfish.
