Our friends Forrst have launched their new site. Forrst is a place for designers & developers to share inspiring code, screenshots, and links with their peers.

Here, then, is a presets file containing four of my custom adjustments, yours to apply and remix as you like.

To install the presets, switch to the Adjustments tab in the main Aperture window then select Edit Presets… from the Presets drop-down menu. Now from the Actions drop-down menu in the bottom left corner of the Adjustment Presets window, select Import…, locate the downloaded file and press Import.

Indie+Relief

Indie+Relief:
Garrett Murray:

All proceeds made on January 20, 2010 will be donated to Haiti. You get great software, Haiti gets financial help in its time of crisis.

Buy any of the software listed tomorrow (Wednesday) and developers will donate the proceeds to charities for Haiti relief.

I’ve been working on this site all weekend—it’s amazing how difficult it was to design a clean layout for that many listings (over 130 companies are involved), and I’m thrilled to have it online and ready to raise loads of money.

Please support this terrific effort.

PrimerCSS

PrimerCSS:
A webapp that “undercoats” your CSS by placing classes and IDs from your HTML into a starter stylesheet. It’s a single-player, quick-fire font identification game in which you race the clock to name 30 typefaces in a multi-choice format. The beautifully designed interface makes liberal use of H&FJ’s Whitney family, which is a welcome change from the usual Helvetica. I’ve played with an early beta and even then the subtle animation effects and slightly non-standard UI made for a very handsome product. I’m sure it’ll be a big hit.

Tumblr Mosaic Viewer

Tumblr Mosaic Viewer:
Masonry-style, infinite-scrolling photo post viewer.

Big news overnight is the launch of Square, a mobile app...

Big news overnight is the launch of Square, a mobile app supporting multiple devices that enables anyone to take credit card transactions without the hassle of merchant accounts or complicated fee structures. It’s the brainchild of Twitter inventor Jack Dorsey and with the likes of Buzz Andersen involved, it’s going to be huge. Impeccable website design by Bobby Andersen.

As pointed out in the notes by Max Wheeler and Lachlan Hardy, part of the solution is a physical card reader mechanism that sends magnetic data from a credit card to a supported device through its audio input jack, generating the power to do so from the swiping motion. Clever.
