Apple’s pro photography app Aperture 3 has at last added an export option for custom adjustment presets. Here, then, is a presets file containing four of my custom adjustments, yours to apply and remix as you like.
To install the presets, switch to the Adjustments tab in the main Aperture window then select Edit Presets… from the Presets drop-down menu. Now from the actions drop-down menu in the bottom left corner of the Adjustment Presets window, select Import…, locate the downloaded file and press the Import button.
Noah Kalina’s new portfolio site is big and beautiful. The full-screen slideshows are done in JavaScript; I really like the little touches such as the slide-off/slide-on effect when you reach the end of a gallery. Design and code by Patrick Moberg.

Design and Art Direction 1966 Annual, with superbly minimalist cover design by Alan Aldridge and Lou Klein. From D&AD’s Flickr page (via Peter Nidzgorski):
During the past few years one has been aware of a growing professionalism in editorial, film and advertising techniques. In this Annual you will see work where a strong idea has been welded to this competence, to solve a design problem with economy and flair.

Chicago photographer Paul Octavious documents a day at the Yale Peabody: a fantastic photo essay of which this is my favourite shot. Paul’s image of giant redwoods in Golden Gate Park headlined the second Pictory showcase of San Francisco photographs. (via Laura Brunow Miner)
“Coming Home”, the showcase I guest designed for Laura Brunow Miner’s inspiring Pictory site, went live this morning. It’s a collection of photos both old and new around the theme of the houses we grew up in. A big thanks to Laura for her editorial guidance and exacting eye, and to the site’s readers for all the positive feedback I’ve received through various channels. “Use it to find the photography you like using the simple idea that people whose work you like, probably like stuff you’ll like. You start with a set of pictures — if you authenticate, it’ll use 20 of your last 100 favorites — otherwise it’ll start with somebody’s favorites. Click any picture to load more.” Great idea, works beautifully. (via Jarred Bishop)
